GAT-X105 Strike Gundam was a prototype mobile suit piloted by Kira Yamato. It played a critical role in the First Bloody Valentine War until it was destroyed in a battle with Aegis Gundam. The unit was salvaged and the rebuilt by the Orb Union and was subsequently piloted by Mu La Flaga. The mobile suit was destroyed in the Second Battle of Jachin Due towards the end of the war.

History
At the start of the First Bloody Valentine War, the Atlantic Federation begun a secret project to develop mobile suits to counter ZAFT's mass-produced ZGMF-1017 GINN. The Strike Gundam was one of five prototype suits secretly developed in conjunction with Orb's defense company, Morgenroete, inc. Unlike the other Gundams that were designed for specific roles, the Strike Gundam was intended to operate in various configurations through the use of Striker packs.
Strike Gundam entered combat in January 25, C.E. 71, when ZAFT attacked Orb's space colony Heliopolis in an attempt to steal the Gundam prototypes. Although ZAFT succeeded in capturing four units, the Strike Gundam remained in Earth Alliance control. It was initially piloted by Murrue Ramius. The primitive operating system was awkward to use and she struggled to control the mobile suit. However, young Coordinator Kira Yamato was able to reprogram the incomplete operating system and made the Strike Gundam combat ready.
After the destruction of Heliopolis, Kira was appointed the pilot of Strike Gundam since he was the only person who could pilot it. The Strike Gundam was severly damaged in the battle with Athrun Zala, with the latter self-destructing his Aegis Gundam while it pinned Strike Gundam down.
The Strike Gundam was salvaged by the Junk Guild and rebuilt by the Orb Union. The reconstructed Strike Gundam was subsequently piloted by Mu La Flaga.
On September 27, the Strike Gundam was damaged in a duel with Rau Le Creuset's Providence Gundam. It was destroyed later destroyed when Mu shielded the Archangel from an attack by the Earth Alliance battleship, the Dominion.
Design
Like the other prototype Gundams, the Strike Gundam was equipped with the new Phase Shift armor technology. The Strike Gundam in Phase Shift mode was nearly impervious to attacks from shell-firing artillery or melee weapons. However, extended use of Phase Shift was a massive drain on the energy battery. The basic version of the Strike Gundam was almost identical to the Duel Gundam's initial configuration.
Its armament consisted of two "Igelstellung" vulcan guns, a 57mm beam rifle, a shield and two "Armor Schneider" combat knives. Other optional armaments included a bazooka designed for underwater combat. In addition to the first unit, Orb later constructed an improved version from spare parts, the Strike Rouge. The Alliance also constructed a third unit, which is later upgraded into the Strike E. Technology from the Strike Gundam led to the mass production Strike Dagger and Dagger L.
Two years after the war, the versatile design of the Strike Gundam serves as the basis for ZAFT's Impulse Gundam.

Behind the scenes
The original mechanical design was created by Junichi Akutsu. Kunio Okawara cleaned up the design for Mobile Suit SEED.
The GAT-X105 Strike is one of the most extensively modeled Cosmic Era mobile suits, with 24 model kits and 13 action figures. It has also appeared in many video games, including those of the Super Robot Wars franchise.
In the Japanese video game Tomo to Kimi to Senjou De (Here With My Friends on the Battlefield), the player can unlock the Gunbarrel Strike for Mu La Flaga to use. In the three appearances of Gundam SEED in Super Robot Wars, the IWSP Striker can be unlocked; in Super Robot Wars Alpha 3, it can only be used by the Strike Rouge, but in Super Robot Wars Judgement, either the Strike or the Strike Rouge can use it; in Super Robot Wars W, both the IWSP and Lightning Striker can be unlocked and can be either used by the Strike or Strike Rouge.
In SD Gundam G Generation MONOEYE GUNDAMS, an early design version of the Strike can be acquired if the player has Turn A Gundam's Harry Ord explore a certain square on the game's Moon stage. This early version lacks Phase Shift and Striker Packs, but is closest to the Aile Strike in terms of design and weaponry. As Gundam SEED had not aired at the time Monoeye Gundams was released, its backstory within the game is simply that it is a part of the Dark History recorded by the Moonrace that had not yet been uncovered.
The 1/60 Perfect Grade models of Strike and Strike Rouge and the 1/100 Master Grade model of Strike Gundam + I.W.S.P. include a large sword called the "Grand Slam." This sword never appeared in the anime, but the CG short Gundam Evolve 08 featured Aile Strike with the Grand Slam.
