MechaBay
MechaBay is a wiki that was started on February 1, 2009 by Valiant and Sealedsoul. It strives to be the premier source of information on all aspects of the mecha genre. This includes information from the Japanese series such as Gundam and Evangelion, and Western series like BattleTech.

Name
The name MechaBay was chosen in reference to the bay that a mecha unit is parked in a hangar.
Early concept
The initial concept of MechaBay was a hybrid social networking and encyclopedia site. Valiant lamented at the lack of a comprehensive site about the mecha genre. There were several sites dedicated to only selected series and some were only available for editing by selected contributors.
A prototype site was built using the Drupal CMS software. However, as the concept deviated from social networking, MediaWiki was used to test and eventually power MechaBay.
