Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is the first animated series of the Cosmic Era, with the story continuing through Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. Based in the fictional universe in which the world is divided by race, those Genetically modified, Coordinators, and those not, Naturals. After several key events in the timeline tension between each race escalates to war, Naturals form the Earth Alliance and the Coordinators, ZAFT, with those indifferent, Neutral.
Plot
Within the neutral space colony, Heliopolis, a top-secret weapons research facility for the Earth Alliance was established. There, 5 Gundams and a battleship were produced. Situated on that colony was a young civilian, Kira Yamato. There living on the neutral colony, those were seemingly excluded from the war. However, the war did not exclude them, ZAFT, one of the major participants of the war, had launched a covert operation to apprehend the 5 secret Gundams. Their attack on the colony, threw it into chaos. The colony had become another victim to the war, it became a battlefield.
Amidst the battle, two old friends meet one another. One of the ZAFT pilots that were sent to steal the Gundams was Athrun Zala. Years before the war Kira and Athrun were the best of friends, before they both went their separate ways. Denying him the chance to steal the Gundam, Kira is forced into the cockpit of one. Now fate has decided to reunite them, but not in such a friendly way.
Throughout their journey, Kira pilots his Gundam to protect his friends, from his old friend.
